Drafting: Laser Nameplate Design and Manufacture

Twin Valley High School

Name Plate Design

Purpose:
– Design and manufacture a nameplate/plaque to display on a desk or
shelf that efficiently and effectively utilizes the capabilities of the laser
cutter/engraver.
– Utilize the Coreldraw software to design an appealing and applicable display that represents
and identifies the end user.

Criteria / Constraints:
– The nameplate must have a prominent name displayed with the text offset/contoured for
engraving (see above, the gold color of Mr. Joy was offset/contoured) and protruding at the top
of the display.
– The nameplate must have a graphic “cut-out” and
engraved protruding at the top of the display.
– There must be engraved text under the name, the
text may be someone’s title, notable quotation, or
other text as approved by the instructor.
– The top portion of the nameplate will be designed using CorelDraw and manufactured with 1/8” thick material. The base will be designed using Autodesk Inventor and will be manufactured with 1⁄4” thick material.
– The top portion will be 1” shorter in width than the base. For example, if the top portion is 11” wide the base will be 12”
– The top portion will be 2” +/-1.2” in height unless approved by the instructor.
– The engraving will be painted prior to assembly with the base.
– The base will have the following dimensions with the exception of the overall width:

Red outline (vector) for cutting
Black portions (raster) for engraving
